As a strange symbol of mutual distrust between the mostly Islamic state of Malaysia, and the multicultural melting pot of Singapore, stands the Woodlands Checkpoint border crossing building with its feng shui and geomantic based "Star Wars" architecture. It never fails to send a chill down my spine when I approach it. The only single uglier building in this part of the world is the fiercely constipated American Embassy building.
